Mendon Superintendent Issues Statement On Arrest Of Contract Employee
Thursday, October 2, 2025

(MENDON) – Mendon Schools Superintendent Leasa Griffth-Mathews has issued a statement on the arrest of a woman facing multiple CSC charges.

With the announcement of the arrest of 28 year old Kaitlyn Sand, Mathews says the school district has received many questions from the community.

Mathews wants the public to know that Sand was never a District employee. She previously was employed by a food service provider who Mendon Schools contract with. She says based on records, Sand was assigned to the school district from August 2021 until March 2023.

Mathews says school personnel cannot discuss specifics of this situation. She says the administrative team has been working with the Mendon Police Department and will continue to do so.

On Monday, St. Joseph County Prosecutor Deborah J. Davis announced that Sand had been charged in connection with alleged sexual assaults involving two minor victims. It’s alleged the incidents happened between February and April 2023.

Investigators allege Sand met the victims while working as a contract employee in food service at Mendon Jr./Sr. High School, and used various social media platforms to contact the victims repeatedly. The incidents allegedly occurred in Mendon and Three Rivers.

Sand was arraigned Monday on two counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct; two counts of third degree criminal sexual conduct; one count of second degree criminal sexual conduct; one count of tampering with evidence in a criminal case, which are all felonies; and a misdemeanor count of fourth degree criminal sexual conduct.

Sand is scheduled to have a pre-trial conference on October 14 and a preliminary hearing on October 21 at 1 PM.
