(PORTER TOWNSHIP) – A missing teen has been found dead in Southwest Michigan.

Cass County Sheriff Clint Roach says his deputies responded to a missing teen who had walked away from his camper while at the Willow Shores Campground on U.S. 12 in Porter Township. Family members noticed their 16 year son with autism was missing.

The Sheriff’s Office was dispatched just after 9 AM Saturday, along with the medical first responders from the Southeast Public Safety Authority, Cass County Sheriff Marine Division, the Porter Township Fire Dept. and Indian Lake Fire Department. They searched on land and in the water of Baldwin Lake.

K-9 Officer Britton, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office Drone Team and Med Flight helicopter also assisted in the search.

K-9 Officer Britton indicated to her handler that the teen had gone into Baldwin Lake. A drone piloted by Sheriff's Office personnel located the teen under the water at approximately 3:25 P.M. and the dive team recovered his body. He was deceased.

The incident remains under investigation.
