(ELKHART) – Authorities are investigating the weekend death of a six year old boy.
Saturday evening, the Elkhart Police Department was called to the 1000 block of West Wolf Street after receiving a 911 hang up call. Officers arrived and found several people outside, who directed police to a parked vehicle that was along the side of the building.
Officers found a 6 year old boy inside the vehicle who was unconscious. The child was removed from the auto and taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police also found a 26 year old woman laying unconscious in the doorway of the house. She was also taken to the hospital. In addition, a 55 year old man was in the home and was alert. He was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
The initial investigation determined that there was an elevated level of carbon monoxide in the home.
As per protocol, the Elkhart County Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation.
